The Asphalt Institute reports that over 90% of airfield pavement failure is a result of oxidation and exposure to the environment! Oxidation causes small, medium and large stones to come loose and then damage passing aircraft, and in some cases cause severe damage. When GSB Sealer Binder applications are chosen, FOD (foreign object damage) is eliminated and pavement deterioration is held in check for many years. Here at Gee Asphalt we understand how airfield operations and safety works and we and are skilled in dealing with airfield pavement issues as well. No project is too big or difficult for our highly trained and experienced crews! GSB-88 has been successfully installed on over 35 million square yards of airfield pavements without accident or incident.

GSB-88 is engineered to eliminate FOD in one simple application and has been successfully applied to nearly 40 million square yards of airfield pavements including "grooved" and "OGFC" (open graded friction course) runways without compromise to pavement design for rapid water runoff. GSB is designed especially for airfield pavements where oxidation and aging is the most serious problem and where friction must be maintained for public safety. GSB not only preserves the binder in your runway, but soaks down into the pavement surface where it will do the most good.

GSB-88 is not a thick layer on top of runway and apron surfaces like slurry coatings that ravel & peel, and plows scrape away actually creating FOD. GSB-88 penetrates into runway surfaces, and glues everything back together from the inside out. Friction and safety is maintained or improved by simultaneously applying sharp angular micro friction materials during the installation process. Friction materials are thus bonded into the GSB creating micro-texture and insuring friction stays where it has to be in the FAA maintenance bulletins. CFME skid testing is used "as needed" to ensure friction numbers meet required FAA maintenance guidelines. For more information on GSB airfield friction data contact Gee Asphalt, available on request!

As a preservation seal GSB-88 qualifies for AIP (Airport Improvement Program) funds through an application for a modification to standards using the P-609 FAA specification. With supportive federal funding available, there has never been a better time to start an asphalt preservation program on your airfield pavements. Contrary to what many miss-informed engineers airport managers and FAA officials believe, independent research (see below) proves the primary reason for airfield pavement failure is aging and exposure to the environment, not fuel spillage on ramps and hanger areas. How many square yards of pavement have you replaced because of fuel spills? Choosing environmentally friendly GSB with ultra low PAH's (under 100ppm) for preserving and extending the life of airfield pavements while protecting our environment is always the best choice. Contact Gee Asphalt for assistance when preparing your request for a modification to standards and we'll be happy to help!

The experts' advice and your wisest investment is to establish a sound preservation strategy for your airfield pavements. A good strategy will forestall costly, pre-mature deterioration, major repairs, rehabilitation, and reconstruction. Won't that be a relief for our ailing economy and staggering deficits? Preservation extends airfield pavement's useful life-cycle and minimizes disruption to airfield operations and user delays. This insightful practice keeps your good pavements in good condition at a higher level of service for a longer period of time. They will look and perform better and safer while preserving precious resources. In these troubled times where every dollar counts, pavement preservation is insurance for the future of aviation industry!

    Asphalt Preservation:

    • Keeps the good pavements good.
    • Repairs surface damage and halts the aging process.
    • Avoids excessive down time and closures.
    • Saves you money!
