MONONA COUNTY, IOWA - RE: GSB-88 SEALER BINDER
In years past our asphalt preservation included chip seals among other processes like crack sealing employed here in Monona County. We had received complaints from the public from chips coming out of the seal coat flying into windshields and had also been hearing complaints of chip loss from our road foremen.
I applied GSB-88 for the first time in 2001 with some question in my mind about how it would perform compared to the chip seals I had been using, hoping for something better. GSB does not require an aggregate cover and as a result is cleaner than chip seals. It also soaks down into the pavement and over time has proven to last longer with less trouble and mess than the chip seals.
Five years after trying GSB we not only are pleased with it, but continue to use it. Overall I have been surprised and pleased with the performance of GSB because it has worked better than I expected, and better than what we had been doing. I would recommend GSB to those of you who want to implement a simple cost effective process that will most likely outperform what you are doing now.

NEBRASKA DEPARMENT OF ROADS - RE: GSB-88 SEALER BINDER
A few years ago our department started an asphalt preventive maintenance program. One of our preservation applications for this program is known as a fog seal. We wanted a fog seal that would seal small cracks, and around aggregates as well as to rejuvenate asphalt pavement. We had asphalt shoulders and newly laid asphalt roads that we wanted to try something besides the ss1h asphalt emulsions used in the past. We wanted to keep the aggregates bound in place on the shoulders and prevent them from raveling, and on the newly placed asphalt we wanted to try and keep them in a "like new" condition.
In 2002 we tried a product called GSB-88, an asphalt emulsion supplied by Asphalt Systems, Inc. Three years later the aggregates are still bound tightly in place on our shoulder project as well as the "new asphalt" pavements that were treated. The GSB treated surfaces still look good today. GSB-88 was applied to asphalt overlay projects having ADT (average daily traffic) ranging from 300 to 2600 vehicles. For the 2005 maintenance season we will apply GSB-88 to approximately 144 miles of our state highways in two districts. Our future plans are to continue using GSB-88 for our fog seal asphalt preservation applications.

GREAT BEND MUNICIPAL AIRPORT - RE: GSB-88 SEALER BINDER
Gee Asphalt Systems, Inc. was primary contractor on this project in Oct. 2010. Contractor was very responsive to pre-construction and safety criteria specific to this location. Staging and preparation were timely, in order to take advantage of changing weather and temperature conditions. Quality and speed of application were very impressive. This involved a high degree of coordination with the airport authority and operation. As a result, the seal application was accomplished in minimum time, and with minimum impact on airfield safety.

RE: GSB-88 SEALER BINDER
During a planned airfield construction project in September 2010, the primary runway was being closed for eight days. While the taxiway construction work was being done, we completed a preventative maintenance project on the runway, in an effort to extend the usable life of the runway pavement.
Gee Asphalt Systems, Inc. was contracted with to help in this endeavor. Obviously with a time sensitive situation, much coordination had to take place. Gee Asphalt arrived as scheduled and completed the GSB-88 application as planned. Their team worked safely and very professionally.

CITY OF EAGAN - RE: GSB-78 SEALER BINDER
Gee Asphalt applied the Gilsonite Sealer Binder to 23,518 square yards of gateway entry and parking lots for the City of Eagan on April 24, 2005. We are very pleased with the results. It was truly a pleasure to do business with Gee Asphalt. From the salesperson to receptionist, owner to crew, these top notch professionals exceeded our expectations with their fast and efficient, high quality work. Knowledgeable and courteous describes their staff and crew. I would highly recommend them.

GATEWAY COMPUTER - RE: GSB-78 SEALER BINDER
Thanks Gee Asphalt! I was seeing raveling and oxidation occurring in our parking lots, I knew something had to be done to slow down the process of oxidation and erosion. Letting it deteriorate and eventually replacing it wasn't a very economical solution. Dan and Chris showed me pavements where GSB has been used on various locations from as little as one year ago, up to pavements maintained as long as 32 years, and they all looked amazing! Seeing is believing!
The Gee Asphalt team was able to answer all questions about their product and they were willing to talk in great detail of what to expect and how GSB could improve the useful life of my parking lots. They always seemed to get the job done according to my schedule, which was usually short notice. The workmanship of the crew and Forman were top notch, and after the job was done you couldn't tell anyone one was there besides a "new looking" parking lot.
I'm very happy with the results of our first GSB application to several of our parking lots 4 years ago and I believe that using GSB and Gee Asphalt was the correct decision. Thanks!

WHITE CLOUD CASINO - RE: GSB-88 SEALER BINDER
The asphalt pavement of the Casino parking lot was showing signs of deterioration; cracks, raveling and oxidation. We needed to improve the appearance and safety for our patrons. Replacement with new asphalt was going to be very costly. I asked Kevin Monear of Gee Asphalt Systems to give me an estimate for crack sealing and seal coating the parking lot, while their crews were working on roads throughout the tribe territory. Kevin explained that much of the existing coal tar sealant had worn away. We could replace it with new asphalt OR, preserve it by sealing the cracks and applying GBS to the surface in order to buy us a couple more years of service.
We agreed to have Gee Asphalt Systems provide the pavement preservation services for the Casino parking lot and our Multi-Purpose Building parking lot. The crew did an excellent job of crack sealing and applying a fog seal with GSB-88. Afterward, we had all the pavement markings painted and we are very pleased with the appearance. The entire operation took only a couple of days and cost about 8 times less than the cost of applying new asphalt.
I would recommend Gee Asphalt Systems to anyone who is interested in preserving their asphalt pavement. Their people were prompt and professional and a pleasure to work with.

DULUTH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - RE: GSB-88 SEALER BINDER
The Duluth International Airport was experiencing deteriorating pavement conditions on Taxiway "A" (parallel to main 10,152' runway) attributing to foreign object debris (FOD) concerns for aircraft operations, in particular, the F-16's of the 148th Air National Guard located on the airfield. Funding and timing being of at concern, a fast paced project was designed to crack seal and seal coat the taxiway until a rehabilitation project could be funded at a later date.
Gee Asphalt Systems, Inc., was awarded the bid and coordinated with the Duluth Airport Authority the aggressive schedule necessary to perform the work within the 18 calendar days provided under the contract. During the project, the crew did an exceptional job coordinating the project phasing to ensure safe progress while not disrupting aircraft operations.
The project was very successful ending on time and on budget. All of the airfield users agree it is a great improvement rejuvenating a deteriorated taxiway into an almost new system. The Duluth Airport Authority thanks Gee Asphalt and their crews for a job well done and for introducing us to a cost effective and efficient product!

RE: JOB PERFORMANCE
Gee Asphalt Systems won the bid for a crack seal and asphalt preservation project on the Grand Marais Cook County Airport. Their crew arrived and set up on schedule. The weather however deteriorated and was predicted to continue. The crew worked around the weathers schedule, as in late nights if need be and if possible to try to maintain the desired schedule for our runway closure. The work was professionally carried out and the job well done. We were very happy with the result but I personally was impressed by the crews desire to work around the weather. The airport is a tourism destination airport therefore weekends are our busiest time and they did all they could do to have minimum negative impact while completing a major airport project.

NORTHPARK MALL / GENERAL GROWTH PROPERTIES - RE: GSB-78
This letter is in response to the GSB-78 which we tested here at this property. As you are fully aware the test section was an area that was overlaid late in the season during the previous year. As a result it showed extreme raveling with excessive loose aggregate and a very porous surface. The subsequent test application of GSB has corrected this problem and has no doubt prolonged the life of this surface. It is evident the surface would have to have been replaced if not for the GSB application. I feel your preventive maintenance system of sealing and preserving asphalt pavement is one our industry is ready for. Thank you for your assistance in providing a solution to our problem.

GENERAL GROWTH PROPERTIES - RE: GSB-78 & GSB-88
I first used GSB-78 in 1984 as a test at one of General Growth's malls in Iowa (Northpark Mall - Davenport). We were not only impressed with the results of the product but also with Gee Asphalt and their application crews. General Growth has been using Gee Asphalt and GSB products to preserve and extend the life of our mall parking lots for more than 20 years. In my opinion, GSB 78 and GSB-88 are the only asphalt seal coating materials that penetrate into the asphalt surface, bind it together and prolong its useful life. I highly recommend Gee Asphalt and GSB products.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for arranging our pavement maintenance work here at Abbott, and insuring it would go smoothly. Also, please give a big thanks to John Billick and Phil Brundrett, as well as their excellent crew. They completed a lot of work in the 5 days they spent here. I was very impressed with their conscientious hard work and concern for quality. I know that working at a site like ours, with the tight security and 24 hour operations, it can really wear on you. CATERPILLAR, INC. - RE: GSB-78
We first applied GSB-78 to our facility parking and drives in 1986. I was impressed with the quality of equipment and personnel that came and applied the GSB. I was initially worried that there would be over spray on curbs and also that the product would track into our building. Your crews soon convinced me all would be ok. They applied product using hand wands along curbs, and larger distributors out in the open areas. The curbing was not touched; within an hour of application I could walk on the GSB without tracking; within four hours they were applying the lines and markings. The whole 420,000 square foot lot was cleaned, treated, and striped in one day.
Before purchasing GSB-78 and Gee services we evaluated several other coatings. We inspected many parking lots that had been sealed one, two or three years previous and none compared to GSB. Prior to application of the GSB we had raveling and rocks popping out of the surface, and it was obvious it was dry and brittle. The price from Gee was not the cheapest, but we felt it was the best value. Today, eighteen years later, the surface is tight and pliable and the rocks are glued tightly in place. We feel that purchasing GSB was the right decision and I would recommend GSB and Gee Asphalt Systems to anyone that wants to protect their paving investment.

CATERPILLAR, INC. - RE: GSB-78
We chose to apply GSB to nearly 40 acres of asphalt parking at our facility in 1985 after field research and contacting Gee references. We can say that the results so far indicate that GSB is far superior to any other product we have used previously. In fact, we are so convinced of the quality that our specifications for all future asphalt preservation applications will be written to show GSB as the sole product used. Thank you for your cooperation and assistance with our asphalt preservation process. It is refreshing to work with a supplier who has a company policy of service that is also compatible with the superior products they provide.

NATIONAL OATS COMPANY / RALSON - RE: GSB-78
We applied GSB to our parking and drive areas in 1978. The lots were constructed in 1971 and showing signs of oxidation and aging at the time the GSB was applied. After the GSB application the rate of oxidation was significantly reduced, and even today the lots are still in good condition. The product performance and workmanship was very satisfactory and we (Ralston) continue using Gee services today.

SQUARE D COMPANY - RE: GSB-78
Our experience with GSB was begun two decades ago, and since then we have used it extensively on all our parking and drives. During this period of time the GSB has performed very well, both on newer sections as well as the older pavements. It is also evident that repairs and the possibility of replacement has been mitigated and the useful life of the pavements have been extended. I have evaluated other processes and will continue to do so since state-of-the-art in anything dictates continual improvement. To date however, I have not found anything that is superior to GSB-78 and we are planning to continue using this product.

OWENS BRUSH / ORAL-B - RE: GSB-78
It has been two years since we applied GSB to our lots and drives. We are happy to say the application halted the raveling and oxidation that you pointed out prior to this treatment. It would appear the aging process has been slowed and the life of the pavement will be extended as a result. I am certain this will defer a costly overlay. We are well satisfied with the GSB application. I am also pleased with the performance of your crew who did an excellent job of cleaning and completing the project within our specified time schedule. It has been a pleasure working with your firm.

ACT / WESTINGHOUSE LEARNING COMPANY - RE: GSB-78
Recently you inquired concerning the GSB application your company made to our 250,000 square foot parking lot in the fall of 1976. As we are all aware the asphalt was deteriorating because of weather and aging. After we had investigated several possible alternatives it was our best judgment that an application of GSB-78 would prevent further deterioration, which would save us money. It is our belief that we are deferring (the cost) an over lay by three to five years with this process. We found your company extremely competent and cooperative, your estimates accurate and precise, and we appreciated that the specifications were carefully adhered to. It has been a pleasure doing business with your company.

It is my understanding that you are considering a major asphalt maintenance project at your mall location. My interests are two fold. One, being a drum beater for Gee Asphalt Systems, their crews, their product, and their service. Secondly, being a past property manager for Met Life, I know the importance of good quality work and service at an affordable price. My experiences with Gee Asphalt have been outstanding. The product (GSB-78) has made an incredible difference in the life of our asphalt surfaces, and the service that Gee Asphalt and their crews provided were beyond comparison to other vendors I have had experiences with.

THE MID-AMERICA GROUP - RE: GSB-78
We have been working with Gee Asphalt since 1985 and using GSB-78 at eleven of our office buildings. Gee Asphalt has promoted their product as penetrating, sealing and binding treatment that goes down into the pavement and performs regardless of traffic wear. I believe this claim is true and in fact we are budgeting to re-apply GSB on all eleven lots this June. This will be the fourth application over a 14 year period and it is my opinion that these lots are still in good shape as a result of using GSB.
When an application problem arose, Gee Asphalt re-applied GSB to Regency #5 at no cost to us. Gee has consistently performed their work in a timely manner. I would not hesitate to recommend GSB and Gee Asphalt to those considering a preservation program for their asphalt pavement. Gee Asphalt is a quality organization with quality people, quality equipment and quality products. They have also proven the test of time and will celebrate their 50th anniversary this year! We are pleased with our working relationship and look forward to working together with Gee for many more years.

Find enclosed the specifications for the asphalt preservation that Gee Asphalt performed on three of our centers in the St Louis area. The application on each mall parking lot was GSB-78. May Centers is very satisfied with the product and over the years of wear and tear the product has held up tremendously well. We highly recommend GSB-78 and will continue to use it on upcoming future projects. May Centers has used similar products over the years but they do not compare to the quality of the GSB application.

MAY CENTERS, INC. - RE: GSB-78
It was a pleasure to see you again and to have the opportunity to tour several of your projects with documented history of maintenance. The oldest lot we saw was of special interest because it was over eighteen years old and proves that maintenance pays off. My brother Bob was impressed with the Rockwell Collins lots where he works. The three year old overlay that was sealed with GSB looked brand new without scuff marks or power steering burns we normally see on slurry coatings. I believe the GSB is a very fine product and would certainly like to see GSB used in the San Diego area on our mall properties and I will work towards that effect. I will also share my projects tour experiences with the senior operations directors in St. Louis. Hope to see you again in the near future.

HILLIS CARNES ENGINEERING ASSOCIATES -
RE: NUMEROUS USER REFERENCES ON GSB-78
Zimmer Consultants, Inc.: Mr. Zimmer has specified GSB since 1986 on General Growth and other mall properties. He stated that the product has none of the problems associated with coal tar such as sealant build-up, slickness when wet, and carcinogenic properties. He was emphatic about its' properties to stop raveling and aggregate loss, and increase pavement life. His final comment was finish tends to wear from friction, but that is not indicative of reduced product performance. Mr. Zimmer indicates he continues to specify GSB for his clients.
Shive Hattery Engineers, Inc.: Mr. Jerry Riebe has tested a series of sealant products in his own parking lot. His lot is 22 years old and is the original surface. It is experiencing raveling and aggregate coming loose. Riebe has tried coal tar, reclamite, and GSB on this pavement. After taking core samples it was determined that the GSB product had penetrated into the surface to a depth of 1/4". Neither of the other products penetrated into the surface. It has been four years since the GSB application and Riebe says they plan a re-application of GSB. He also indicated the Gee firm is very punctual, meeting deadlines and do excellent work. Mr. Riebe indicates his company continues to specify GSB for their clients.
Caterpillar, Inc.: Mr. Hanson indicated he applied GSB to 40 acres of parking lots at his facility in 1985. He felt the product was far superior to the water based coal tar coating previously used by Caterpillar. Hanson continued to say Gee was a professional firm to work with and described them as eager to please, helpful in planning the work, and adept at managing several other associated tasks. He reported their work was completed in a tight window of time while the plant was closed during summer shut down, and that they met or exceeded schedule requirements. Hanson also indicated that he knows for a fact that Gee continues to provide these services for many other Caterpillar facilities.
Bell Laboratories - AT&T: Mr. Hume said they have used Gee Asphalt and GSB extensively on their facility parking areas. Hume indicated the total area parked to be approximately 10,000 vehicles. Hume indicated they conducted extensive reference testing and contacting both on Gee, and on the GSB product performance prior to their initial use of the product. Hume said that Gee is conscientious, eager to please and met their schedule commitments. "I would give them and A for their performance".
I believe that if you are serious about developing a pavement preservation program you couldn't find a better firm to associate with based on the contacts I have made and the references provided.

THE CEDAR RAPIDS COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT - RE: GSB-78
We began using GSB-78 as a part of our overall asphalt preservation program over 20 years ago. With over 3,000,000 square feet of asphalt playgrounds, parking lots and driveways within our district, the need to keep them in good condition and extend their service life is of utmost importance. Our goal has always been to treat all surfaces on a rotating schedule, once every five years and thereby extend the life of the pavement and delay the need for expensive reconstruction and overlay projects. This objective is being realized using GSB.
Working with Gee Asphalt Systems has been a very positive experience. Gee Asphalt personnel take pride in their work and strive to maintain an excellent customer relationship. We plan to continue using GSB-78 as it has proven to be the best product on the market for our needs.

Gee Asphalt has been our pavement preservation contractor since June of 1992. They currently perform several preventive maintenance functions for us including routing and sealing cracks, surface preservation for asphalt parking and drives, and re-striping. Since Gee has begun maintenance it is evident the crack sealing and the GSB-78 has extended the life of our facility pavements. Having observed and noted distinct differences between typical coal tar coatings and GSB I am confident we made the right decision to use GSB and Gee Asphalt Systems.
